Full Circle

November 6, 2007

After starting and operating my practice in the bottom of the Napa Valley for the past 7 years, my family and I have decided to relocate to Santa Cruz. I am very excted about operating as a landscape architect in the place where I formulated many of my progressive notions of landscape as an Environmental Studies student at the University of California in Santa Cruz. As an undergraduate at the University, I focused my studies on the importance of public space, most notably the less prominent ones; the alleys, the street corners, and the smaller pockets, where, it seemed to me, then that the phenomenon of community was often expressed. I left Santa Cruz in 1995 to study the discipline of Landscape Architecture at the School of Natural Resources, a graduate school at the University of Michigan. Now, 12 years later, it feels as though I have travelled in a full circle, to practice design of the outdoor environment, in a place that I truly enjoy being.
